As promised in my Spring news, I did eventually get back to the world of writing after Bob recovered nicely from his trip to hospital – and I’m delighted to say that Women’s Weekly has recently accepted my short story, A Proposal, for publication at some as yet unspecified date.
This was great to hear after a rather fraught early summer while I waited for a date to have some problem cells removed from my nose.  All went well and I’m told I now look quite human again. Even Baxter The Dog seems to think so, and I do trust his opinion.
Enjoy our unpredictable summer weather, whatever it is.

Spring update

I’m afraid the new short story I was hoping to send off this spring was a bit delayed when Bob had to pay another unexpected visit to the hospital once a cold turned into another COPD attack. After five days he returned home in much better shape than he went in.
I have now returned to the world of writing – which I hope Baxter won’t eat. He recently consumed a helpful Government Health Guide. Not sure if his interest in it was health related or political, but he seemed to enjoy it.  The year can only get better from now on.  More next time.

Good news!

My newest short story, Blue Christmas, was published in early November in England’s Women’s Weekly Fiction Special. It is, very loosely, based on a long ago Christmas when my mother tried to cook a very large goose in an oven meant for a chicken. It didn’t exactly work, but we all  survived.  And guess why I no longer eat birds.

 In my last newsletter I mentioned that I would be attending a workshop given by the Vancouver Island Romance Writers. That happened in September, and the guest speaker, Shannon Mayer, was entertaining, hilarious and super-informative. She came with cupcakes too. I strongly recommend her books, as well as her cupcakes, to anyone who loves magic and Urban Fantasy.

 Since then I’ve stayed close to home because, unfortunately, my husband’s COPD doesn’t take kindly to travel. Happily, we’re both looking forward to  a visit from family very soon.  Baxter-dog is, of course, looking forward to extra food.

GOOD NEWS!

In my last News I mentioned that I’d finally sent a new short story off to an editor and that I hoped she would like it.  She did! I’m delighted to report that my story, currently titled BLUE CHRISTMAS, will be published in England’s Women’s Weekly Fiction Special on November 1, 2018.  It’s been a while, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing one of my tales in print again. I hope my readers will like it too.

As we all know, it’s been an usually hot and smokey summer for a lot of Canada, and although I love the heat, my husband, Bob, doesn’t.  Neither do his lungs. Consequently, we haven’t managed any holidays this year.  However, I am hoping to spend a few days in Nanaimo in September when the Vancouver Island Romance Writers are holding a one day conference. This will fit in perfectly with a  visit to my son, Nathan, and his wife, Barbara, along with their five cats. Yes, we have five grandcats. Their names are Selke, Oscar, Raven, Smuge and Luna.  Our Baxter-dog wouldn’t approve if he knew, so I shan’t tell him.

Wishing everyone a cool and peaceful conclusion to our hot summer and a happy beginning to Fall 2018.
